BRING LOVE INTO EVERY ROOM
By Linda Smith

Any fashionista will tell you it is all about the accessories! The most affordable way to update your wardrobe, or your home, is by changing your accessories. Effective and attractive arrangements complement the purpose of the room. Choosing textures and colors that add interest and are balanced with the proportions of a room will add impact and create a fresh statement.

Furniture and appliances suit the room’s purpose and are costly to replace, whereas art and decorative accessories give your room personality and style. They are more important than you think. You truly can recreate the decor of your room by rearranging and redesigning your accessories.

A group of pictures should be thought of as one unit.  Plan your arrangement by first placing it on the floor close to where you are going to hang it.  This way you can move the grouping around until you find the configuration that suits the space. You might want to lay a large piece of paper under the grouping and trace around each object. Then you can tape the paper on the wall and visualize what the arrangement will look like before you ever pound in the first nail.

Relate the size of your art to the size of your furniture. For instance, when hanging a piece of art over a table, the art should not be more than 75% of the table width. Remember, think of the art and the furniture as one unit, complimenting each other in scale, interest and style.

Wall art with messages of faith and warmth create an atmosphere of love. Exciting, interesting accessories transform a plain ordinary room into one that speaks style and creativity. Express yourself with your collections and groupings. Don't be afraid to show the love in your heart, express the real you.

Karla Dornacher wrote a wonderful book entitled "Love in Every Room." I have a copy and periodically I will put it out on my kitchen counter. It works as a reminder to me to be the thermostat of my home, keeping the temperature set to love and the humidity set to joy. Whatever your tastes, whatever your interests and whatever your passions are, enjoy creating spaces in your home that express your unique and personal style of love.
